I remember seeing 2 different people at A-Kon that were dressed up and walking around with cardboard boxes covering them. It was hilarious!

today was dedicated to making a cosplay costume. I originally was supposed to get the new master chief costume, but they ended up not shipping till august, T_T but i cant expect every one to dress up on Friday and not be costumed myself. so the day was spent walking the streets of down town, exploring the hectic corners of the goodwill and even the salvation army. I even went as far as searching the mall for bits and pieces that might make the look complete. 8 hours were spent searching for a skirt for my GF. in the end we got as close as we could to what we wanted and started dying white clothing like no ones business. Here are a few points to follow. 1. Always bring a picture. It doesn’t matter how many times you've seen these characters, you never can remember the exact colors or how a pattern looked and double checking a design off of a side kick just isn’t the same.-_- 2. GO the places that have the largest selection first, then the smaller shops. it was my thought that the articles needed would be more easily found in smaller shops, i was wrong. i found more opportunities at walmart than at the smaller specialty shops. Sometimes you get exactly what you need there, but the time wasted searching shop after shop is just not worth it. 3. Details are what make the look. it's easy to get fixated on the exact shade of green or maybe a certain pattern, but its all the little things that make it look right. Even a pair of pajamas could be a shinigami if holding the right prop. Don’t go for the expensive article, because they are authentic. Some times an out fit looks best when put together. 4. Your most important asset is time. Anything can be accomplished with enough time. Sewing and making props take time to put together and that’s not a luxury I had this close to con. Another problem was that I couldn’t even cheat by ordering the outfit. most cosplay suppliers require 10 to 15 days to size everything then ship from the far reaches of Asia...., by boat,....then by cargo plane, then by snail,...you get the picture. These are my most obvious points of advise to all those of you still pasting together your out fit. Dozo!

do the cosplays have to be of a cretain character??
i mean i want to enter the cosplay contest but my cosplay is more of a japanese fashion thing.

i want to cosplay Wa-lolita!
but i was wondering if that would be qualified for the cosplay contest seeing as how it's based more on the japanese fashion scene rather than a character from an anime or game

I think thats the fun part (and at times very frustrating), putting the costume all together yourself. Most of the times all it takes is a little creativeness and improvisation. Your right on all your points though, especially the one about time. I think my younger brother and I have found more items at places like Home Depot and Lowes than at specialty shops. Wal-Mart and Academy are also good places to go. When it comes down to it, it all depends on who you are dressing as. Also if you have time, eBay has some decent stuff on there at times. Hopefully by next year when I have more time and am not pushing summer school, I can do my dream costume which would be Vincent Valentine (BIG FF fan).

haha i know what ya mean!!
heehee
well wa-loli is more of traditional japanese kimono/yukata mixed in with modern lolita clothing! making a kimono type dress only shorter above the knees, poofy, etc... with lolita characteristics
